Mother’s day family photoshoot
Whenever I’m asked to photograph anyone the first thing that I feel is really happy that I’ve been chosen. The second thing is how privileged I am to have a job which captures a family’s legacy. Taking someone’s portrait, not just a selfie captured on a mobile phone, I mean really freezing that moment in their life which will be seen by their children and their children’s children still blows me away. Having lost my Mum to cancer I know how precious a portrait can be.
A mum’s role within the family is so powerful and can affect how you treat and are treated by others. That’s why I urge you to take time out of your busy lives and stop. Make sure you get the most beautiful, natural portrait taken with your Mum, or if you’re the Mum be in charge of making sure your family is recorded and that you are in the photograph too.
Time speeds past us so fast that you blink and 5, 10 even 20 years have passed and all you have is digital low res mobile shots saved somewhere in a cloud. Print your portraits get them up on the wall or in an album just like our Mum’s and Grandma’s did. I love looking through old photographs and albums, there’s nothing better. What a treat to take a portrait of three generations of women and a little bubba about to burst into this world really soon. It could have even happened during the shoot and turned into my first birthing story. Luckily there was no such drama just lots of giggles and running around after wriggle bum Chloe pulling out my tricks to keep her attention!
I photographed Chloe with her Lisa and Mark when she was about 5 months old and it’s so lovely to see her grow.
I love it when families come back with a new addition to update their family portrait. I can’t wait to welcome Lisa, Mark and Chloe’s new bubba to Kelliejo Photography.
Here’s what Lisa said about the shoot “I’m used to working with KJ behind the scenes, so it was an exciting prospect to have my face on camera for a change! We all thoroughly enjoyed the morning and KJ used her ‘toddler-whisperer’ skills to keep my 3 yr old in check and got some amazing pics of her actually smiling and looking at the camera! I don’t have many photos of me with my bump or with my mum for that matter. Plus my mum does so much for me and my daughter, and will play an integral role for baby number 2 – the shoot was an ideal way for us to capture that special bond”
Sue said it was a “Relaxed environment , fun, creative – you are easy to be around. Great rapport with children – everything is natural and doesn’t feel forced or manufactured.”
